The Department: The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 2004. The Department is offering M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes. M.Sc., Chemistry course is offered with three specializations i.e., Inorganic, Organic and Physical chemistry. At present, the department has 141 members, including 07 vibrant faculty members, 05 able administrative staff, 67 Research scholars, 14 M.Phil scholars and around 48 PG students. The faculty members have chosen to work on the most modern and thrust areas in Chemistry including photocatalysts, coordination chemistry, advanced materials, bioinorganic chemistry, nanomaterials, green chemistry and material chemistry. More than nine national level conferences/workshops/seminars in the frontier areas of chemistry were organized. Since inception, all the faculty members have undertaken several sponsored research projects funded by various national funding agencies such as UGC, DST, CSIR, DRDO, ICMR and TNSCST. One of the strengths of the department is the well-accredited Autonomous Post Graduate teaching program based on the CBCS pattern which is rendering flexibility to the curriculums to suit the individual needs of the students. The DST recognized the teaching and research potentials of the department and sanctioned funds for infrastructure development under DST-FIST programme.
